July 2010

14th July's issue is very large, carrying reports on our student who is working with UCB Slough on a Nuffield Foundation Bursary on page 2; Sports Day photos on page 3 & 4 with more on the South Africa tour; Y12 Careers & Information Fair Day on pages 2 & 5 and Junior Speech Day on page 6. This may take some time to load!

7th July's issue reports on the 50th Anniversary Open Day with lots of photos from the day. Also read about Mr & Mrs Brown for whom we raised funds to help them get back on their feet after an arson attack in Burnham, and fieldwork our Year 7 conducted at Dorney Lake.

June 2010

30th June's issue is now available and features on the front page the Y7 visit to the River Chess with a more detailed report and photos on page 4. We have the timetable for the Open Day on 3rd July and we need as many tickets back for the Grand Prize Draw as possible - now please! Also we learn more about our developing links with the Y12 Aspirin Day at Reading University on page 3.

23rd June's issue is now available and features on the front page the Y7 visit to the Japanese Teikyo School in Stoke Poges with a more detailed report and photos on page 4. We have more information on the Open Day on 3rd July and the Grand Prize Draw, and the timetable for the day will go up here on the website soon (once we know if England are progressing in the World Cup). Read about the non-uniform day we had to raise money for the poor elderly couple whose house was destroyed by an arsonist in Burnham last week, and news of the Lonza Senior Scientist of the Year competition.

26th May's issue is now available and features on the front page the Healthy Lifestyles Cross-curricular activities. Page 2 has the findings from the parental
communications survey and a student-made game and on page 3 a full report on the ski trip to the USA.

19th May's issue is now available and the front page photo shows the beginnings of the orchard being planted @ BGS; 7D's Cake sale & Duke of Edinburgh award training on page 2; the success of the PTA Quiz Night & the community's language “taster” session on page 3; and news from the Languages Department with Y9 German poetry competition winners on page 4.

12th May's issue features on the front page our new senior prefect team as our Year 13 leave us to prepare for their exams; read the report on Enigma Day when we had the only Enigma machine outside a glass museum case at BGS on page 2; see how Year 7 are getting on with their Animations for the 50th celebrations & how BGS' voted last week on page 3; and go to page 4 for news of a student's national award & a round-up of Café-Sci speakers.

5th May's issue features on the front page our Year 10's success at football with Captain Ben Saunders' report on page 3; we hear about the French Theatre production which was shared with Our Lady Of Peace on page 2; and the success of Burnham Grammar in the Bucks Youth Parliament with Leon Man being elected and his plans on page 4.

April 2010

28th April 's issue features news on the Bucks Youth Parliament election as well as the Uk election; the BGS Iceland trip including the volcano which has erupted; & our school photograph on p2. There's a full report on Lonza's DNA Practical on p3 and news on extra-curricular sport and the upcoming Quiz Night on p4.

March 2010

31st March's issue features our national achievement in hosting the Radio 4 environmental debate programme Home Planet; our Maths achievements and the students' verdict on the Roop Singh day.

24th March's issue features The Hudson Hour report on the show on p2; Sport Relief photos on p3 and the front page with our local dignitaries and the Science Club win ICI Finals on p4. Don't forget the Earth Hour and Radio 4 are in next Wednesday to record Home Planet.

17th March's issue features National Science & Engineering Week with the Science Museum team entertaining 4 local primary schools and Burnham Upper alongside our Y7 and Y8 students with their show It Takes Guts! followed by a chair designing extension activity for our top Y7-9 science students. We also had the Y8 Bloodhound SSC day. The eggs have been hatching this week in reception to much excitement and prompting much debate about what we eat, and debate continued when Lord Howe stopped by to make a visit.

10th March's issue features more photos from our successful dance show; News on our Sports Relief activities and student achievements plus Student Council ideas from our students on p2; and Chris Short's winning Crime Writing short story on p3

10th February's issue features three generations of teaching at BGS on the front page as we look forward to 50 years in existence. 27th January's issue focuses on Maps galore as The Ordnance Survey donate the local Chiltern Hills East map to all our Year 7 Geography students, and there are more photos of the Burnham Village fieldwork on p2; Haiti appeal news, and the restart for Café-Sci by a new Y12 team on p3; and news on the Auction of Promises with sample Lots on p4.

20th January's issue focuses on the Year 7 Geography fieldwork trips around Burnham Village. October 2009

21st October's issue reveals our updated School's Aims. We hear from several students who have been looking outside their school studies and turning attention to life outside of school: reporting from the London Fashion Week; a lecture on Maths & Business Studies; and a report on Skills For Life which helps Y11 prepare for November's work experience week. Finally lots of activites are happening over half-term and we hear from the Bike It! crew.

14th October's issue covers the Freshers' Fair for Y7 encouraging them to take up at least one extra-curricular club. We have news from our new Head of Music and his plans for music at BGS, reports on trips to Windsor Arts festival and the medicinal Physic Garden in Chelsea, and don't forget the competition to create the image for our digital mosaic for the 50th Birthday Celebrations.

7th October's issue reports on the Daily Mail Cup rugby when England star Will Greenwood came to give the boys a motivational team talk; a report on the Sports Leadership Award which Year 11 have received after their work with the community in Year 10; a trip around Parliament and news about our new Careers office. Don't forget to put in your diary the PTA Art & Craft Fair happening here on 13th - 15th November, with student art on exhibit, the start of the 50th Birthday celebration mosaic and lots of stalls to buy Christmas goodies (or to indulge yourself with).

September 2009

30th September's issue reports on our 3 students who have won places at Oxford University; our trip for next year's possible candidates who went to Oxford University's open day and a 6th form seminar on learning and aspirations. The Languages Week activities are reported in more detail and 7E's media reps report on their trip to Intech Science Museum during their space camp.

23rd September's issue carries lots of colourful photos of Year 7's World Extravaganza event from our Open Evening; news from the rugby pitch and one of our students' experience at a work placement with Lonza (he left Y13 in the summer); an advert from the PTA for their Art & Craft Fair and we hope many more parents will sign up for their 250 Club; and a report on one of the first activities during Languages Week about Royal Holloway lecturer Frank Engleman who came in to talk about combining a language with other degrees, and also gave our students an insight on modern German emotions about their country's WW2 history - fascinating!
