Foreign Language trip to St Omer - February 2007
On 20th February a group of Year 8 students visited St Omer in the north of France, in order to put their knowledge of the French language into practise.
We met early in the morning at Budgens' car park to set off for Dover where we caught the ferry to Calais. After arriving in St Omer our first stop was the paper factory, after which we went on to our accommodation to settle in and look forward to the next three days that faced us.
Making crepes
Visiting the Boulangerie, and seeing the traditional methods of making bread
Every day was packed with a new and exciting activity to help us practise French and increase our vocabulary in a fun and interactive way. We visited the local chocolate factory, bakery and the rather smelly dairy farm! We also went to Boulogne to visit their aquarium where we had great fun watching a 4D film about the dangers we are putting sea life in and having a look around at all the different sea creatures they had to show. We also had a chance to look around some of the local towns to see what they had to offer. On the last day before leaving for England we had the chance to look around the well-known shopping centre Cite de l'Europe where we spent all of our money!!
Overall everyone found the trip incredibly enjoyable, interesting and fun. It also gave us a chance to improve and use our French, and learn about the culture of France!

Berets were one of the most popular purchases at Cite de l'Europe!
Mr Worthington takes on Y8 students
At the chocolate factory the best thing was the smell, and you could taste the chocolate and had a bag of chocolates to take away. However, when we tasted the cocoa beans, before processing, they were disgusting. See the cathedral and cockerel made entirely of chocolate!

“The students really enjoyed the trip and all the varied activities; not only were they were keen to practise their French, they also enjoyed the social interaction too. I'd like to thank Ms Jenkins, Mr Heath and Mr Worthington for their help”
