BGS Charity of the year 2001/2 - “The
Thames Valley And Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust” receives £2645.27.
Last year's charity for Burnham Grammar School was “The
Thames Valley And Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust”.
The trust was launched in June of 1999 and provides
a life saving service for the Thames Valley area covering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire,
Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. We managed to actually visit the air
ambulance base at White Waltham near Maidenhead.
The cheque that we donated was for the amazing sum of £2645.27,
and was handed over to Stevie Horton- The Director Of Fundraising for
the trust.
The money was raised in a number of different ways that included numerous
tog days and the annual BGS “Stars In Their Eyes” competition.
The money that was raised turned out to be the equivalent of saving five
individuals lives (whether they would be adults or children); £500
per helicopter “mission” and £100 for fuel, and there
can even be up to six or seven flights per day.
Very luckily we also had on hand St Tony Welch and Teresa Covey who is
the Civilian Duty Officer Of Thames Valley Police. The school in conjunction
with The Thames Valley Police also collected used/old phones to be donated
for extra money towards the service.
Two pupils even had the chance to get in the helicopter as it arrived
back from an emergency call out just in time to greet us and was no sooner
on its way to another life saving emergency.
The charity is a very worthwhile cause and last year a BGS student even
needed its services due to a severe accident in rugby match.
We wish all the success to the air ambulance and its services and hope
that our raised funds will benefit to save many more lives.
For the year 2002/3 BGS are supporting Breast Cancer,
and in particular our local centre in Windsor known as The Parapet.
We are also supporting the Jeans
for Genes Day. Read more
